Finding Current Information on Asia
Periodical literature is available in full text in research databases, in print, on microfilm or microfiche, and sometimes on the Internet

Why use periodicals?
- Periodicals are publications that come out regularly or periodically (daily, weekly, monthly)
- Currency is a major advantage of periodical literature
- Magazines, scholarly journals, and newspapers are examples of periodicals
- Through the publishing process, there are checks and balances on the quality and reliability of the information provided
- However, publishers sometimes "embargo" the most current issues--these are not available in databases for a specific period of time
What about the Internet?
- The Internet may provide more current information than published periodical literature because the publishing process takes time
- The most current issues of some, but not all, periodicals are available on the Internet
- Some titles that are embargoed in databases might be freely available on the Internet
- The disadvantages of the Internet are:
- every source identified with a search engine must be evaluated for authorship, currency, accuracy, reliability, and point-of-view
- the sheer amount of information available can make finding specific information difficult unless you know exactly where to go
